Countdown to Superfine! March 21-24

Superfine SF starts this Thursday, March 21, and I'm nearly ready! I'm packing up my studio today so I can set up tomorrow in the Gateway Pavilion at Fort Mason. Find me at booth #52 when you visit.

Especially for this art fair, I've painted a new collection of a dozen small paintings called “Growing Things”, inspired by the spring weather and all my friends who garden.

And I've just released them online so you can be one of the first to see them:

Reserve yours on my website and pick it up at the fair, or I'll make sure it gets to you next week.

Either way, I hope I'll see you this weekend. There will be work by over 100 artists. I'll have my latest originals, plus exclusive wood-mounted and giclee prints that aren't available on my website.

Get a 30% discount on tickets with the code ARTLOVER. Let me know if you're coming!

tiny

Studio Gallery's tiny continues through December 23, full of wonderful little paintings all under $500. This beloved show changes constantly, as work sells and gets rearranged.

They have a couple of my Sutro in Fog paintings, as well as some of the bird collaborations I did with Josh Coffy in the companion HUGE show. Not all the work is available online, but contact them and Jen will be delighted to help you.

On my website or in my studio!

Maybe you're hunkering down a bit this holiday season? I get it!

You can find all my work, including Sutro in Fog originals and other affordable paintings, online, and there's still time to get them to you before Christmas.

I also have several Sutro in Fog pillows still in stock in my studio - contact me directly if you're local and I can deliver to you.

Or have any number of designs made and shipped directly to you from Threadless - if you order by 12/18 and select next-day, they should get to you by the 25th.

I hope you're having a sparkly holiday season and staying safe - warmest wishes to you.

Are you a grasshopper or an ant?

September is often a time of reflection for me - maybe for you, too? This year, I'm reminded of the old Aesop fable we learned in school, The Ants and the Grasshopper.

If you remember, the ants worked hard all summer to gather food while the grasshopper played music. Come fall, the grasshopper was starving, but the ants were well off (and pretty smug about it).

I'm looking back at summer, when I was lucky enough to get to travel to a few different places and have fun doing it! I'm also looking towards fall and winter, which are going to be pretty busy with exhibits and open studios.

And as I'm working hard preparing for these shows, I'm finding that the inspiration I gained in my summer travels is REALLY paying off on the paintings I'm occupied with now, even though it felt like relaxing at the time.

It's *because* I was able to take some time to play then that I'm thriving now, not despite of it!

Did you get to travel or do other exciting things this summer? I hope your experiences are still feeding your soul as we move into fall.

Work in progress

Since I'm gearing up for fall, I've been spending a lot of time in the studio this month! I'm in the middle of a few larger paintings, including this one above, which is 24x48". I'm enjoying finessing the delicate color palette.

My studio neighbor Josh Coffy is also collaborating with me on a series of small works we're really excited about - these will be ready for Open Studios, November 11-12, so please save the date! Here's a peek of the first one:

And lastly, I'm finishing up several little Sutro in Fog paintings to have on offer for Open Studios and holiday shows. I'll let you know when they're ready to go!

Santa Fe Artist Residency and Open Studios

Small art is joyful art

Two openings this weekend in SF

Since I got my bigger studio space in 2022, I've really delighted in working big. Being able to create larger pieces has changed my process and and composition, and even helped me loosen up my work style.

But there's definitely still a place in my heart for smaller paintings! I've found working on the bigger pieces has also informed the little ones. So if you visit my studio, you'll usually see paintings of several sizes in progress.

I'm happy to share that a few of my small paintings are in two shows that open this weekend.

"Postcards from Paradise" at Voss Gallery is first up. For this exhibit, more than 70 artists created 8x10" pieces that celebrate the beauty of our surroundings and how we connect with one another. I have two pieces in the show, "Storms in Paradise" and "Sunrise in Paradise."

The opening party is Friday, May 26, 6-9pm and I hope you'll join me there. But if you can't make it, all the art is available online (and there's so many great affordable pieces, I think you'll love it!)

Next, opening on Saturday, May 27, 6-9pm at Helvella Art Gallery in Oakland is "Pride is Not a Crime", an exhibit showcasing the unique perspectives and experiences of LGBTQ+ artists. My painting "Stellar" is in this one - if you're interested in acquiring it, you can contact them directly at hello@helvella.art, or the art will be available online next week.

Both these shows will be up through June 24 - I hope you'll get a chance to enjoy them! And If you're interested in petite work, I have some in my small art section as well as sprinkled throughout my originals store.

Warmly
Heather

Hello! Who knew there would be so much happening the last half of February? I wanted to let you know about some art events that I'm delighted to be participating in over the rest of the month.

This weekend is the opening of SKY, a group show at The Drawing Room. Sky takes advantage of a large exhibition space with installations as well as a salon-style show. I'm so excited to see it in person and I plan to attend some of the artist talk series. My painting "Temporale" was chosen for inclusion.

Studio Gallery is starting off the year with a silent auction to raise money for a terrific local cause, the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. Over 100 pieces have been donated to the auction, including my painting "Excavation." Pieces will be available to view in the gallery, but all the bidding will take place online February 23-26. Visit their page to sign up to be notified when the auction goes live!

And lastly, I'll be opening my studio at Arc during the 48 Pillars opening, Saturday, Feb. 25, 6-9pm. This exhibition has become an annual tradition - twenty-four local Bay Area artists each produce two 48" x 12" pieces that ring the gallery. This year promises to be a really wonderful show. After you've visited it, come upstairs to studio #202 and say hello! I have lots of paintings in progress I'd love you to see.

Summer Sutros for Secession

Though Secession Art & Design's San Francisco location closed this past spring, they still wanted to celebrate their 15th anniversary. So to mark the special occasion, Eden will be taking over 307 Cortland in San Francisco and curating a pop-up art show August 4-7.

Since I had my studio within Secession for so long, I was delighted that Eden chose me to be one of the artists participating in the show. Moreover, she asked if I would create fifteen Sutro paintings that she could hang all together. I really wanted to make these special for her, and now they're all ready to go.

These 8x8" Sutro pieces are available for pre-sale on Secession's site, and a few have already been claimed. If one is calling your name, you can reserve it online and pick it up during the pop-up, or another time - just select "pickup" at the second step of checkout.

You won't want to miss the pop-up show - there will be some beautiful artwork by fifteen Secession favorites, made just for this occasion, plus a mini-boutique. I'll be at the opening that Friday evening!

Summer studio work

Summer studio work

This week I've been in the studio as much as possible, after being out of circulation with Covid for a couple of weeks prior. As usual, I'm working on a wide variety of paintings at once. Right now, I'm continuing to make progress on a couple of larger pieces that I'm absolutely thrilled to get back into.

Some unexpected time off

Sadly like so many other lately, I got covid at the end of May. I’m doing all right, but I’m still indoors and away from my studio, so there’s not a lot of interesting art news from me right now. I hope to start working again soon, to finish up some projects and start work for some shows in August and September. More details soon!

Join me this weekend for Spring Open Studios!

Spring Open Studios is here

Visit me and more than a hundred other artists at The Shipyard

Coming up this Sunday is the Spring Cleaning Sale at Arc. Over a dozen artists are offering discontinued works, art supplies, and other odds & ends. There will be a lot of interesting (and maybe weird) stuff available!

I'm featured on Artglish's site

Jessica Gardner of Artglish recently featured my website in an article and video about artist statements. Take a look:

If you’re an artist who’s struggling to write their statement (I’ve definitely been there, and I’m sure I’ll be there again), check out her advice. She’s got a lot of useful tips, and also offers her services as a language coach for artists.

Gallery-hop with me to Luna Rienne and Arc this Saturday

I'm now thoroughly settled into my new studio and busy producing work, including a couple of big paintings I'm especially excited about. This Saturday evening, I'll be attending the openings of two new shows, and I hope to see you at one or both of them.

Visual Indulgence

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 9, 5-9pm
Luna Rienne - 3318 22nd St, San Francisco
Exhibition: April 9 - May 1

I'm thrilled to be showing my "Pattern Seeking" paintings in this exhibit at Luna Rienne Gallery with one of my favorite artists. Find me there from 5 to around 7pm.

Visual Indulgence is a foray into color and process with paintings by Ingrid V. Wells and Heather Robinson that are simultaneously playful and serious; simple and complex. Vibrant patterns are immediately inviting yet crafted through a deliberate and extensive process that involves modeling, masking, layering and more.

Off-Kilter

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 9, 7-9pm
Arc - 1246 Folsom St, San Francisco
Exhibition: April 9 - May 7

A group exhibit featuring work by the sixteen artists who have their studios at Arc. I'm proud to call Arc my new art home, and this will undoubtedly be a lively and eclectic show. I can't wait to see it. Find me in the gallery sometime after 7pm.
